Since I reside in Texas, I would like to let my fellow consumers know that a debt collection's agency threats to garnish wages or put a lien on a Debtor's house violates the Texas Debt Collection Act.
Know the Agencies that protects Consumer Rights:
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
Some examples of consumer rights and how they can be beneficial for you:
Debt collectors of misrepresenting the amount owed (an FDCPA violation that entitles a consumer to collect up to $1,000).
Debt collectors prerecorded and auto-dialed calls to cellular phones (a TCPA violation worth up to $1,500 per call).
Debt collection agencies that fails to investigate on claims that his/her credit file contains inaccurate information, is a breach of the Fair Credit Reporting Act worth up to $1,000 per violation.
